Responsibilities & Context

ActionAid Bangladesh (AAB) has been responding to the Rohingya crisis since 2017, implementing programs on Protection, Site Management, Site Development, Self-Reliance & Livelihood, WASH, etc. AAB is starting a new WASH project funded by IOM, the UN Migration Agency. We are seeking an enthusiastic Hygiene Promotion Assistant for this project. The position will be based at camp 11 and will be responsible for supervising overall hygiene-related activities, facilitating hygiene training and meetings, and reporting to stakeholders. The incumbent will support the team in providing technical assistance to Hygiene Promoters (Rohingya), coordinating with IOM WASH volunteers, WASH NFI distribution, and identifying community needs. The role also ensures compliance with hygiene standards and quality service delivery across field activities. Key responsibilities include (not limited to): - Project Implementation (80% of Time): - Deliver hygiene education/awareness sessions for women, children, and vulnerable groups on key hygiene topics. - Mobilize and engage communities to promote safe hygiene practices and prevent disease transmission. - Establish users' groups, WASH committees, and facility follow-up mechanisms. - Facilitate behavior change initiatives through hygiene campaigns, community meetings, and interactive sessions. - Supervise community hygiene promoters/volunteers, providing day-to-day support and guidance. - Distribute WASH NFIs (soaps, MHM kits, hygiene kits, etc.) through GDT, including preparing muster rolls and supporting PDM. - Organize and implement community hygiene campaigns and support global hygiene events. - Respond to AWD outbreaks and coordinate water container cleaning interventions. - Participate in JART assessments and follow up on action points. - Perform other duties as assigned to support WASH and community engagement objectives. - Assist the Associate Officer in planning, scheduling, and implementing hygiene activities. - Coordination and Communication (10% of Time): - Liaise with SMSD, NRM/DRR, government authorities (CiC Officials), and other stakeholders at camp. - Maintain regular coordination with IOM Camp WASH Focal and volunteers. - Practice, promote, and endorse safeguarding policies among team members. - Reporting and Documentation (10% of Time): - Support hygiene-related assessments and ensure accurate data collection using Kobo or similar tools. - Ensure accurate and timely reporting of distributions and share data with the MEAL team. - Report gaps or duplication in service delivery and advocate for minimum standards. - Assist the MEAL team in implementing the CFM system and reporting as per plan. Relationships: The incumbent will report to the Associate Officer – Hygiene Promotion & Community Engagement. Project Name: Provision of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Services in Rohingya Refugee Camp in Cox's Bazar. Contract Type: Fixed-term contract up to 30th November 2026 (renewable depending on funding and performance).
